Syspeace 4.0

Syspeace 4.0 and later

Syspeace v4 is a new implementation of Syspeace and uses a new foundation from Syspeace v3. This page contains information about improvements in minor version releases starting with 4.0.

Major changes between Syspeace v4 and Syspeace v3

(Also see the comparison/what’s new page, which lists features that are currently absent in v4.)
  • Syspeace v3 was one program that contained both the service and the user interface. Both were installed on the server and both ran there. Syspeace v4 contains Syspeace Service, which is installed on the server, and Syspeace Console, the user interface, which is installed on your computer.
  • Syspeace Console can connect to multiple servers and provides full remote management of all features. Syspeace Console replaces the local user interface and the Remote Status Console application, necessary in Syspeace v3 to see remote status.
  • Syspeace v4 still uses Syspeace accounts and their contained licenses. However, pairing a service to the account does not happen with the account’s license key. Instead, accounts contain one or more license groups and they contain the licenses. A service is paired to an account and one of the license groups.
  • Syspeace v4 supports detecting blocks from IPv6 addresses.
  • Syspeace v4 now has an HTML manual instead of a PDF manual, and various topics are linked directly from Console. Consulting the right portion of the manual is now much quicker.
  • Syspeace v4 now uses Windows Filtering Platform, the underpinnings of Windows Firewall, to manage blocks directly and incrementally for a faster experience. WFP, unlike Windows Firewall, will not be taken over by other security software when the firewall is “managed”.
  • Syspeace v4 uses a blocking pipeline that is rebuilt from the ground up to be more capable and responsive. The conditions used in rules can be much more capable and blocks can last for much longer.
Syspeace Service requires Windows Server 2008 R2 and later. Syspeace Console requires Windows Server 2012 or later, or Windows 7 or later.
